Dr Kaukab Siddique | Editor-in-Chief Zulq'idah 2, 1432/October 11, 2010 # 40

Verse of the Week "O ye who believe! Take not my enemies and yours as friends (or protectors), offering them (your) love, even though they have rejected the Truth that has come to you, and have (on the contrary) driven out the Prophet and yourselves (from your homes), (simply) because ye believe in Allah your Lord! If ye have come out to strive in My Way and to seek My Good Pleasure, (take them not as friends), holding secret converse of love (and friendship) with them: for I know full well all that ye conceal and all that ye reveal. And any of you that does this has strayed from the Straight Path."
  -Holy Qur'an 60:1

From Imam Badi Ali [National Shoora Leader] Jamaat al-Muslimeen North Carolina. Points from his Juma' khutba of October 8 attended by a large crowd in Greensboro.

Spotlight #1: What is haram [forbidden] is clear and what is halal [permitted] is clear.
Spotlight #2: Necessity is not an excuse for indulging in haram. There are always alternatives to haram.
Spotlight # 3. Whatever leads to haram is also haram. The punishment for adultery is stoning. So get married, instead of carrying on an affair which leads to adultery.
Spotlight #4: Do not try to cover up haram with clever commentary to make it look halal.

The attack came at the beginning of the 45-day Palestinian olive harvest. It's traditionally a time of heightened violence, as a minority of extremist Jews tries to provoke Palestinians. Some two dozen men from a nearby Jewish settlement damaged the trees in Burin after they tried to attack Palestinians bulldozing an access road to their fields, said Bilal Eid, who witnessed the incident."The settlers began cutting the trees, trying to kill the roots. They are trying to scare us," Eid said. The damage could kill the trees, which were meant to be harvested this week, he said.

Kashmiris Demand: India Must Leave Kashmir
An Inside Look at the Peaceful Mass Movement Facing India. 10,000 held in secret.
From markthetruth[dot]com
Srinagar, October 10, 2010: APHC Chairman, Syed Ali Shah Geelani has said that India have unleashed a reign of terror to suppress the ongoing "Quite Kashmir Movement" in Occupied State of Jammu & Kashmir (OSJK).
Syed Ali Shah Geelani in a statement issued in Srinagar demanded an immediate withdrawal of the Indian forces from the occupied territory. "The occupation authorities have turned the Kashmir valley into a military garrison," he added.

Syed Ali Shah Geelani had condemned the attack on a school bus by Indian forces and imposition of 27-day long curfew in Palhalan area of Pattan. He said that the residents of the area were living under a Gaza like situation with shortage of essential commodities and medicines. Appealing the residents of Pazal Pora in Sopore to protest against the setting up of an Indian army camp near a school and Eidgah in the area, Syed Ali Shah Geelani said, "The occupation forces are a constant threat to our lives, property, dignity and honor which can only remain safe after their complete withdrawal from the territory." Flaying the puppet administration for forcing the shopkeepers to open shops during strikes, he deplored that the troops and police had launched a hunt for pro-freedom leaders and Kashmiri youth across OSJK.

Syed Ali Shah Geelani expressed concern over the cancellation of route permits by the puppet administration to the bus drivers who were not plying their vehicles on the days of strike. He pointed out that the troopers were committing gross rights abuses in the valley with impunity due to the invocation of black laws like Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA).

In regard to World Mental Health Day on October 10, a report issued by research section of Kashmir Media Service. The report says that the number of mental patients in the wake of Indian state terrorism has crossed the one hundred thousand figure.

The report maintains that bombings, beatings, torture, unjustified arrest and detention, extra-judicial killings, and, Indian troops' sense of impunity from prosecution, are among the violations recounted and such abuses have affected the local psyche adversely.

The report says that enforced disappearance is one of the most harrowing consequences of the armed conflict in OSJK and during the last 21 years more than 10,000 people have been subjected to enforced disappearance by the troops. Of the disappeared persons, between 2000-2005 a majority were married males. Although men have been subjected to disappearance largely, but women have been badly affected because of being related to them as daughters, mothers, sisters and wives.

The APHC leader and the Chairperson of Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Khawateen Markaz, Yasmeen Raja, has said that the people of Kashmir are struggling for securing their inalienable right of Self-Determination. Yasmeen Raja in a statement issued in Srinagar deplored that India was trying to muzzle the Kashmiris' just voice through use of brute force. She condemned the imposition of curfew, restrictions and prevention of people from offering Juma congregations by the authorities. She termed the restrictions as frustration on part of the authorities. She sympathised with the families of innocent Kashmiri youth, killed by Indian troops across the occupied territory. Vowing to continue the liberation struggle till its logical end, Yasmeen Raja said that the Kashmir dispute should be resolved through tripartite talks including Pakistan, India and the real Kashmiri leadership.

On the other hand, Dukhtaran-e-Millat Jammu and Kashmir in a statement issued in Srinagar said that Indian troops barged into the houses and illegally detained the people. The statement demanded of India to stop human rights violations in the territory. It welcomed the recent statement of United Nations Secretary General, Ban Ki-Moon on Kashmir and appealed him to play his role in settling the Kashmir dispute.

Normal life remained paralysed across OSJK for the second consecutive day, today, due to the shutdown called by Syed Ali Shah Geelani as part of "Quit Kashmir Movement" while curfew was in force at Palhalan in Pattan.

Indian forces resorted to brute force and fired teargas shells to disperse pro-freedom demonstrators in Parimpora, Gulwanpora, Bagh-e-Mehtab, Batamaloo, Mochou, Natipora, Fateh Kadal, Habak, Baramulla, Sopore, Kupwara, Shopian and Pulwama areas, injuring at least twelve people.

The authorities had made heavy deployments of paramilitary and police personnel in all major towns. In Srinagar, thousands of CRPF troops, armed with sophisticated weapons and riot gear, were seen patrolling the deserted streets, lanes and by-lanes to foil any attempt of the people to stage pro-freedom demonstrations. Men in uniform conducted crackdown in Palhalan, Pattan, Delina and Baramulla and arrested over a dozen persons. Indian forces took into custody eight youth including two young boys in Srinagar and Shopian areas.

The Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) has expressed concern over the deteriorating health of senior APHC leader and the party President, Shabbir Ahmad Shah, in Kot Bhalwal jail. A statement issued by the DFP after a meeting in Srinagar said, Kashmir is a political issue and unless it is resolved keeping in view its history, the peace and stability in South Asia will not prevail.

It welcomed the recent assertion of the United Nations Secretary General, Ban Ki-Moon, in which he had shown concern over the worsening situation in the occupied territory. The party members described prevention of people by the occupation authorities to offer prayers as interference in the religious affairs.

Addressing the meeting, the DFP Acting Chairman, Muhammad Abdullah Tari, denounced continued illegal detention and house arrest of pro-freedom leaders and activists
