Ghamidi's Views on Maulana Maudoodi.
He suffers from Total Misunderstanding of Maudoodi's Writings.

by Kaukab Siddique, PhD

Javed Ahmed Ghamidi has attained fame in Pakistan and in Muslim audiences in the West. His narrative fits neatly into the global campaign against "extremism" though that is not part of my discourse today.

Ghamidi has issued a series of well considered critiques of the writings and thoughts of Syed 'Abul 'Ala Maudoodi. I was under the impression that this must be a devastating critique to have achieved extensive fame or notoriety. I have studied just about all that Maudoodi wrote and am disappointed in the critique Ghamidi has issued.

Here is the link to his first statement on Maudoodi.
YouTube.com/watch?v=fiNKw_oV4jw

He begins on shaky ground by claiming that what a prophet says can get blown away ["payghambar jo kahe ga hawa may tahlil ho jaye ga"] here and there, but the scripture that is written down is more effective.

This off the cuff kind of statement by Ghamidi indicates his carelessness about the devotion of the sahaba, r.a., [Companions of the Prophet, pbuh] to each word he said and their efforts to retain and memorize what he said. This statement alone would disqualify Ghamidi as a scholar of Islam.

Even more egregious is Ghamidi's claim that the Qur'an was sent in writing. After all his years of study, Ghamidi, still does not know that the Qur'an was not given to the Prophet, pbuh, in writing:

The Qur'an uses the term RECITE in various forms, such as YATLU, TATLU, ATLU, YATALA. The role of the Prophet's, pbuh, hadith, is best defined thus in Sura 2 verse 151:

"Allah has conferred a great favor on the believers, sending among them a messenger from among themselves, who RECITES [YATLU] unto them the Signs of Allah, and purifies them and INSTRUCTS them in the Book and Wisdom."
The whole process was verbal, not in writing:
"Do not move your tongue concerning the Qur'an to make haste therewith. It is for us to collect it [in your heart], so you may recite it [quranu'hu], and when We have recited it, follow its recital [quranuhu] Nay, more, it is for US to expound it [through your tongue." [75:16-19]

The Prophet, pbuh, was not carrying a written Book around with him. It was all verbal and became WRITING when the Sahaba, r.a., wrote it down and memorized it. [These were the people whom Ghamidi accuses of picking up hearsay.]

After these two initial disasters, Ghamidi goes into a long winded critique [or complaint] against Maudoodi that Maudoodi changed the entire direction of the DEEN by emphasizing the externals. Ghamidi has in mind the activities of jamaate Islami, the protests, the demonstrations, the political statements, the emphasis on law and procedure , the development of Islamic Law and Constitution.

This is again a total misunderstanding by Ghamidi. He forgot the CONTEXT of the political activities of Maudoodi and Jamaate Islami. In my thirty years of teaching at an American liberal arts college, I have helped generations of students to realize that CONTEXT is essential to understanding World Literature, the Development of the Novel, the rise of Black Journalism and even Shakespeare.

The CONTEXT of Maulana Maudoodi's movement was that Muslims were enmeshed in the INNER spiritual life. The mystical experiences connected to prayer, the INNER meaning of the Qur'an, the KUSHAF of the Sufis, the miracles of saints, the use of metaphors and poetic language were the staple of religion..

Those who got western education soon left the religious people behind and were well funded, installed in power, praised and rewarded by the British.

The idea that Islam as a way of life is superior to the ways of the west was not even whispered [except by Iqbal]. Muslims openly claimed that the ideas of an Islamic State, Islamic Law and Constitution, were absurd. Jihad against the British became unthinkable. Mirza Qadiani and Sir Syed proclaimed the greatness and supremacy of the British Raj.

In that CONTEXT, Maulana Maudoodi taught that Islam is a COMPLETE WAY of life and to leave politics and economics out of it would undermine the power of Islam. With the emergence of Pakistan, the necessity to apply Islam to modern situations became paramount.

That does not mean that Maudoodi changed the Islamic narrative from spiritual and internal to external and secular. There is hardly any writing of Maudoodi which does not place the spiritual, INNER, aspect of Islam uppermost. How could Ghamidi have missed it.! Even a random search of Maudoodi's teachings indicates that the inner, spiritual, being is primary. Without the inner spiritual power, the external ability to STAND AGAINST STATE POWER would be impossible.

Think of Maudoodi after being sentenced to death, awaiting his execution, with the thread taken out of his pyjamas, thinking of the blessings Allah had given him and the importance of prayer. Think of his students recently executed in Bangladesh who were only thinking of the INNER life as they were taken to the gallows.

Here is a quote from the tafseer Maulana Maudoodi wrote on al-Shams, chapter 91 of the Qur'an:

"In the first part of Sura Shams, [till verse 10], three teachings are explained. One is that just like the sun and the moon, day and night, the earth and the heavens are different from each other and apparently contradictory in their impressions and results, similarly good and evil are different and contradictory to each other in their impressions and results. Neither their appearance nor their consequences can be similar.

Secondly, Allah Almighty has not simply left the human being unaware after giving him the powers of the body and the mind but through a natural intuition has given the human being a sense in his sub conscious of good and evil, distinction between right and wrong and the realization that good is good and evil is evil.

Thirdly, that the future of the human being depends on what he does with the distinctions between intention and decision which Allah has placed within him and whether he uses these to either enhance his good tendencies or to suppress them. If he enhances his good tendencies, and purifies himself of the evil tendencies, he will be successful. If he does the opposite, and suppresses the good in him and emphasizes the evil in him, he will be a failure. "

Latest Khutba

 Dr Kaukab Siddique

Qur'an does not Discriminate Against non-Muslim Mothers.
Learn how to study the Qur'an.

[On the Sunday after this khutba, Muslims
from Masjid Jamaat al-Muslimeen, Masjid Inshira and others mixed with Christians to condole with the sister whose mother has passed away.]

On January 26, Br. Kaukab Siddique gave the Juma' khutba and led prayers at Masjid Jamaat al-Muslimeen in Baltimore.

Here is an outline of the khutba to be distributed online Inshallah:

Text: "And We have enjoined on man (to be good) to his parents: in travail upon travail did his mother bear him, and in years twain was his weaning: (hear the command), "Show gratitude to Me and to thy parents: to Me is (thy final) Goal." [The Qur'an 31:14]

  1. We condole with the brother and the sister in this congregation who have both lost their mothers recently. May Allah give them patience and reward them for caring for their mothers.

  2. The Qur'an does not differentiate in the love and care we should give to the mother regardless of their religion. Both mothers in this case were non Muslims.

  3. As long as our mothers do not teach SHIRK or support for the oppressors, we must not show them any bad attitudes. Even then we should continue to honor and respect them.

  4. We earn great reward by serving our parents in their last days when they are weak and unable to function normally. Be extra kind and patient with them when they are frail and Allah will give you a great reward.

  5. These were the teachings Luqman gave to his son, and this behavior is specifically mentioned in the sura of the Qur'an which is named after Luqman, the great African sage who is praised in the Qur'an.

  6. Part 2:

  7. Study the Qur'an and authentic hadith on a daily basis. Remember that the Qur'an is the greatest book in all of human history which transformed the tribal and brutal people of Arabia into the best people in all of humanity: Kind, generous, fearless and supporters of women and children.

  8. Here are some educational tools to study the Qur'an. It's not an excuse that we don't know Arabic. The Qur'an has been translated into every language of the world. Read it with translation.

  9. Study it with the help of Hadith and Sunnah/seerah of the Prophet, pbuh.

  10. Select a scholar who can help you to understand what you don't understand, especially in matters related to Arabic.

  11. The scholar you choose should be independent and not linked to any government or financial group.

  12. The same applies to hadith. We are not allowed to interpret according to our wishes. The Prophet, pbuh, and his Companions, r.a., understood the Qur'an.

  13. Especially beware of scholars who emphasize race, nationalism, classism and male dominance.

Allah is the Lord of all of us. We must not denigrate anyone on the basis of current issues of race which are very powerful in America.

Du'a: O Allah: Help us to unite on the basis of the Qur'an and the Sunnah of Muhammad, pbuh.

Punjab University Incident

January 22:
A display for educational purposes set up by Islamic students known as Islami Jamiate Talaba at Punjab University was attacked by secularist groups and set on fire.

The attackers shouted provocative slogans calling for the separation of the province of Baluchistan from Pakistan.

By the time Islamic students arrived to stop the damage to the display, it was too late. However, they were able to force the secularists to flee.

It appears that elements within the regime are trying to create fake issues to create crisis situation at the university. Jamiate Talaba has the support of students from Baluchistan and Frontier but fringe groups are being used to create separatist conflict.

Misuse of Zainab [7 yr old raped child] Tragedy for Political Purposes.

Kasur.
There was outrage all across Pakistan when the body of a child named Zainab was found in the small town of Kasur.. She had been raped and murdered. Crowds came into the streets and fought with police. At one point the crowds became uncontrollable and police opened fire killing two people.

The protests and waves of anger do indicate that Pakistan's sense of morality is very much alive.

However, some political elements used the tragedy to blame the government and to create controversy against the legitimacy of the government.

[The girl was from a school run by Tahir ul Qadri, who lives in Canada, an opponent of the Punjab government run by supporters of Nawaz Sharif.]

Some groups tried to use the tragedy against the existence of Pakistsn itself. As these secularists are influential in the media, they created the impression that children all over Pakistan are being raped and murdered specially when several other cases similar to those of Zainab turned up.

Islamic groups are weak in media matters, specially in English. In USA, for instance, tragedies similar to that of Zainab are quite common but no one in the Muslim world has the ability to challenge the legitimacy of America based on the conditions of women and children in America.

Scores of military personnel are among the dead. The rest were civilians from government offices as well as some of their family members.

General Votel, chief of US Central Command, was in town but the blast completely missed him though it was felt a mile away.

President Trump has condemned the attack as have the authorities in India, Pakistan and numerous other countries.

Was this retaliation for a US drone attack which killed a commander of the Haqqani network? Not clear yet?

Syria

Syrian opposition factions [FSA] join Turkish forces .

Stalemate as Regime, Iranian and Hizb artillery and Russian air force bomb Islamic opposition.

Heavy fighting as ISIS inflicts losses on Regime and Kurdish forces.

January 21-28

A major development in this week's fighting in Syria is that factions of FSA [Free Syrian Army] have joined Turkey's operation in the Afrin area in northern Syria. Afrin itself is under Turkish air and artillery strikes but the Turkish advance is speeding up owing to fighting on the ground against YPG [Kurdish Communists] by Syrian mujahideen FSA.

On January 28, the Turkish led FSA forces scored an important victory when they captured Bersaya town and most of Mount Bersaya northeast of Afrin. According to SOHR 66 YPG fighters and 56 FSA fighters have been killed in the intense fighting which is going on.

Erdogan has signaled Turkish determination to advance to Manbij in north central Syria which is controlled by YPG with US support. Turkey has urged US troops to leave the area.

The other serious fighting is around Damascus where the regime's Hizb and Iranian allies with Russian support are hammering Islamic townships of Douma, Herasta and numerous others. The regime is unable to advance but indiscriminate bombing and shelling, including ground to grund missiles are increasing civilian deaths, including children, on a daily basis.

The regime is holding on to the villages on the borders of Idlib and Aleppo provinces which it captured from Tahrir [al-Nusra] and allied groups.

ISIS is resisting regime attacks on the 85 villages it is holding around Syria, including Yarmouk which abuts into Damascus. Mortar fire from various groups lands in various parts of Damascus held by Assad.

Near the Golan Heights, ISIS ally Jaysh Khalid ibn al-Waleed is strongly entrenched in an area of 250 square kilometers.

In extreme southeast of Deir ez Zor province, east of Mayadeine, Islamic State fighters clashed with Assad's troops on one front and SDF [Kurds backed by US] and inflicted casualties.

Iraq

US air force and Baghdad Regime troops Hunting IS bomb own troops.

Mass Grave Found. Scattered fighting west of Kirkuk.

January 26.

US air force in close support of regime mistakenly bombed their allies, killing 8, a police chief and civilians. The IS force they were targeting slipped away.

In Diyala province a mass grave of IS prisoners, more than 25, probably executed by Shia troops has been "discovered" by regular regime troops.

Fighting is reported west of Kirkuk between Peshmarga Kurdish troops and Islamic State fighters trying to advance.

Thousands of African Americans moving to Africa Owing to Bigotry in America.
[Excerpted from al-Jazeera] [January 27]

Accra, Ghana - They have come from the big cities of San Francisco, Chicago, and New York. Thousands of them. And many refuse to return.

A new wave of African Americans is escaping the incessant racism and prejudice in the United States. From Senegal and Ghana to The Gambia, communities are emerging in defiance of conventional wisdom that Africa is a continent everyone is trying to leave.

It is estimated that between 3,000 and 5,000 African Americans live in Accra, the Ghanaian capital. They are teachers in small towns in the west or entrepreneurs in the capital and say they that even though living in Ghana is not always easy, they feel free and safe.

Take Muhammida el-Muhajir, a digital marketer from New York City, who left her job to move to Accra.

She says she moved, because despite her education and experience, she was always made to feel like a second-class citizen. Moving was an opportunity to fulfil her potential and avoid being targeted by racial violence.

CODOH commemorates the capture of Auschwitz by the Soviets on Jan 27, 1945:

Auschwitz:
A Three-Quarter Century of Propaganda
Origins, Development and Decline
of the "Gas Chamber" Propaganda Lie

By Carlo Mattogno

During the war, wild rumors were circulating about the infamous Auschwitz Camp: that the Germans were testing new war gases there; that inmates were murdered in batches of thousands in electrocution chambers, with gas showers, or by pneumatic hammer systems; that living people were sent on conveyor belts directly into cremation furnaces; that oils, grease and soap were made of the mass-murder victims. Nothing of it was true.

When the Soviets captured Auschwitz in early 1945, they reported that inmates were killed on electrocution conveyor belts that discharged their victims directly into huge furnaces; that at least 4 million people were murdered there. That wasn't true either.

 Auschwitz

This fundamental work by Carlo Mattogno explores the many rumors, myths and lies about Auschwitz which mainstream historians today reject as untrue but nevertheless many believers still like to exploit. It also explains by which ridiculous methods some claims on Auschwitz were accepted as true and turned into "history," although they are just as untrue.

~THE DEAD WOULD BE SHOWN THEIR SEAT IN PARADISE AND HELL ~

 Death

"Every soul will taste Death, and you will only be given your [full] compensation on the Day of Resurrection. So he who is drawn away from the Fire and admitted to Paradise has attained [his desire], And what is the life of this world except the enjoyment of delusion".
[Source~ 'Qur`an'~ Surat Ali `Imran 3~ A # 185]

Allah [Azza wa Jall] will say...
"What number of years did you stay on earth ?"
They will say...
"We stayed a day or part of a day.
Ask of those who keep account."
He (Allâh) will say...
'You stayed not but a little,
if you had only known '.
'Did you think that We had created you in play
(without any purpose), and that you would not be brought back to Us'.

Ibn 'Umar {RA} reported
Allah's Messenger
(may peace be upon him) as saying
'When any one of you dies, he is shown his seat
(in the Hereafter) Morning and Evening'.
'If he is amongst the inmates of Paradise
(he is shown the seat) from amongst the
inmates of Paradise ~{!}
and... if he is one from amongst the denizens of Hell
(he is shown the seat) from amongst ~the denizens of Hell ~{!}

Allah's Apostle(may Peace be upon him) said:
" When the servant is placed in his grave and his
companions retrace their steps he hears the noise of the footsteps...
then two [2] Angels come to him and make him sit and say to him...
'What do you have to say about this person the Holy Prophet '? (may peace be upon him)
If he is a Believer, he would say:
" I bear testimony to the fact that he is a servant of Allah and His Messenger."
Then it would be said to him:
' Look to your seat in the Hell Fire, for Allah has substituted (the seat of yours) with a seat in Paradise.
Allah's Messenger ~ (may Peace be upon him) said...
he would be shown both the seats.
