Countering the Propaganda About Nigeria

Most Americans don't know that Nigeria is a Muslim majority country. Half of it, the north, is Muslim. The western part, known as Yoruba Land, is a mixture of Muslim and local religions. The Eastern part of Nigeria is Christian, and many people there are converting to Islam.
Americans should realize that the primary issue facing Nigeria is extreme poverty. This is manifested in the lack of facilities, exacerbated by resources being controlled by a few well-to-do people.
The extreme poverty has led to uprisings in the north and northeast of Nigeria. There, people want facilities similar to what they see in Western media, or which have otherwise received international publicity. The facilities available to well-to-do Nigerians have been kept away from the great majority of the people.
The poverty is so extreme that a few dollars can change the lives of an entire family. When I visited Nigeria, people who wanted one or two dollars to take to their families could be seen at every nook and corner of the airport. When I landed at Lagos airport, there were young people who rushed to me, wanting to know if they could get the loose change which I, a visitor from America, had in my pockets.
Going east in Lagos, I found entire islands of extreme wealth, with hotels which resembled and out did American resorts.
A Nigerian friend who was accompanying me said, "This is not the real Nigeria. Come with me, and I will show you." He and I boarded a bus which was spouting smoke due to its age and poor maintenance. When we reached his home, I learned nine people lived there. They had organized a rotation where each family member came and went based on his or her work schedule, coming there only to sleep. The person who returned home last might find themselves in some difficulty, if the last sleeping area were taken. Unfortunately, this was often the matriarch of the family, who'd been on her feet selling fruits and vegetables in the market all day, unable to come home in timely fashion to claim a place to sleep.
A great deal of propaganda abounds about Nigerians, that they somehow have a greater propensity for violence and misbehavior than other nationalities. The Muslim areas of Nigeria boast beautiful mosques. No one attacks them. The incidents of violence are very low. People can walk around very late at night in the villages and farming areas where people sell their goods, free of fear of attack, looting, or murder.
There have been some violent incidents in the extreme north. There, some people and groups think not only the government is corrupt, but should be overthrown by violent action. These people and groups are not militants or extremists. Rather they want basic human rights and dignity, and sometimes when they find there is no recourse, they become violent.
Most people in America do not know that monied mega-churches from America and Europe have descended into Nigeria to take advantage of the poverty of the people. They have set up churches in various places hoping to attract Nigerians, but have had very little success. Even though large amounts of money pour into these churches from Europe and the US, they are unable to attract numerous Nigerian adherents. The Nigerian people are not seduced by outside wealth and resources, but rather they want their rights to be respected. They are not willing to be treated like dirt just because they are poor.
There are certain incidents of misbehavior by both Muslims and Christians toward women. If any of this misbehavior reaches the Western media, they exploit it to the fullest, claiming that Nigerians do not respect women.
Nikki Minhaj and other American pop icons seem to think that the greatest thing in the world is music, singing and dancing. Nigeria's large population of practicing Muslims are not attracted to these things. They would rather pray, fast, and go for pilgrimage. Hence, they are labeled as "terrorists," "extremists," or "backward" by corporate media and the US government.
Most recently, US President Donald Trump joined the fray, claiming on his "Truth Social" that "If the Nigerian Government continues to allow the killing of Christians, the U.S.A. will immediately stop all aid and assistance to Nigeria, and may very well go into that now disgraced country, 'guns-a-blazing,' to completely wipe out the Islamic Terrorists who are committing these horrible atrocities." The Nigerian government gave a very diplomatic, if somewhat tepid response, to the effect that they were handling their business. (AP, November 2, 2025)
It may be that Trump, like other US presidents, has his eye on Nigerian oil, or is trying to perpetuate his world view of Muslims as being backward and dangerous. Americans would be wise to investigate this situation, and ask whether they are being misled by corporate media.
Imran Khan Speaks Out Against Pak Army Chief of Staff Munir
The former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, continues to be held political prisoner by the Pakistan authorities. Reports are that he is being severely mistreated in Adiala Prison where he is held. Here, he speaks out against the Pakistani Army Chief of Staff Asim Munir. The Pakistan Army, with Munir at its head, have been accused of human rights violations, including trying civilians in military courts and "enforced disappearance" of political opponents. Khan exhibits some courage in speaking out against Munir, who is instrumental in his continued imprisonment and mistreatment (some would say torture).

"There is no rule of the Constitution or the law in our country at this time. Instead, it is under the rule of 'Asim Law'. Asim Munir is the most tyrannical dictator in history and is mentally unstable. The level of oppression during his tenure is unparalleled. His regime showed no regard for women, nor any compassion for children and the elderly. Asim Munir is capable of doing anything to satisfy his lust for power.
At this time, the entire country is being run by the orders of one man, Asim Munir, as a result of which morality has been completely buried. Never before have there been mass killings of ordinary citizens. The incidents of May 9th (2023), November 26th (2024), Azad Kashmir, and Muridke stand as the worst examples of the ruthless abuse of power. The way unarmed citizens were fired upon is unimaginable in any civilized society.
The atrocities committed against women during Asim Munir's tenure are also unprecedented. Dr. Yasmin Rashid, an elderly cancer survivor, has been imprisoned merely for refusing to abandon Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. Bushra Begum too has been kept in solitary confinement solely to exert pressure on me. What kind of law is this, where those who renounce PTI are granted amnesty, while those who remain loyal to my ideology face relentless persecution?
We prefer death over accepting slavery.
Asim Munir is inflicting every form of cruelty upon me and my wife. No political leader's family has ever been subjected to such treatment. I wish to make it absolutely clear once again: no matter what they do, I will neither bow down nor submit to them.
My message to the nation is this: nations that embrace the clear and fearless principle of 'freedom or death' cannot be stopped from achieving true independence and progress. Only such principled nations ultimately prevail with honor.
I also wish to make it clear that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf will hold no talks either with the Form-47 government or with the Establishment. There is no point in negotiating with a puppet government whose prime minister operates under a policy of 'I will let you know after asking'. Negotiations are futile also because every time we have engaged in dialogue, the oppression against us has only intensified. All power rests in the hands of one man at this time: Asim Munir, who can go to any extent to extend his hold on power. Decisions regarding any negotiations will be made by our allies in the Tehreek Tahafuz-e-Aain Pakistan: Mehmood Khan Achakzai and Allama Raja Nasir Abbas.
All PTI office-bearers, parliamentarians, members of the Insaf Lawyers Forum, and senior lawyers must approach the High Courts and refuse to leave until hearing dates are set, because both my and Bushra Begum's cases are being deliberately prolonged, with hearings not being scheduled, to ensure that we remain in prison. Everyone knows there is no substance in these cases and that they will eventually collapse; therefore, hearings are intentionally being withheld.
I have complete trust in Salman Akram Raja. All party-related instructions and meeting lists will be communicated through him. It is Salman Akram Raja's responsibility to ensure that every directive is duly implemented."

Friends and Foes in Wars
Warmongers and weapon profiteers claim to be peacemakers but reality reveals reckless crimes against humanity, continuous wars, destruction of earth and human habitats and political wickedness and frauds hostile to peace and global harmony. Arab-Muslim leaders detached from reality and divided for individual survival appear delusional and defeated. In crisis, intelligent leaders opt for facts of life and when facts warrant a change, responsible leaders pursue a navigational change. Public advisory is rare and non-existence across the Arab-Muslim governance. The overwhelming reality of war in Palestine reflects a cataclysm that afflicted the entire Arab-Muslim world. When hope is replaced by tyranny and terror, people lose sense of rational thinking and direction. The US-Israel war has broader strategic objectives to conquer the Arab world and make Israel a mini superpower of the Middle East. The oil exporting Arab leaders and masses live in a fantasy of their own imagination – a fallacy of truth telling.
The US appears to be a collaborator in the alleged crimes against humanity and genocide across Gaza. The Tel Aviv billboard displays the Egyptian, Saudi, Emirate and other presidents / kings / princes standing behind Netanyahu and Trump – friends not foes of Israel. For two years, they all kept regular relationships with Israel. Spectators and onlookers, they watched the planned massacres, bombing of places of worship, hospitals, planned starvation of the civilians in Gaza, yet continued their relationships with Israel as a new normal against the interest of their masses. All monsters of history claimed good intentions and righteous ambitions but inflicted horrors, deaths and destruction on fellow human beings to achieve individualistic ambitions of power and glory. Israel and America's Agenda of Conquest of the Arab World
Gaza and West Bank are obliterated by Israeli insanity over two years of continued war and bombardments of civilian infrastructures. The Arab-Muslim leaders had no mind, wisdom and courage to challenge Israel for its planned onslaught of Palestinian masses. They profess friendship with Netanyahu against Israeli animosity. The Arab leaders appear morally, intellectually and politically bankrupt as a scum floating on a torrent of naive puppets and discredited leaders. The American-Israeli collaborative war on Gaza and its immediate consequences made the Western world and all of its institutions shamefully redundant and void in the 21st century global norms of civility, human rights, freedom, justice and safety of civilians- whereas crimes against humanity are captured in obscure impulses and indecision and deliberate inaction by the UN Security Council.
Aggressors and Enemy of Mankind Bomb the Spacious Earth
Israel so far, has dropped more than 90,000 ton of bombs on Gaza – three times more insane than what happened at Hiroshima and Nagasaki during World War 2. Perhaps, the Israeli and American leaders do not believe in life and death and accountability to God for all of their actions. The Torah and Bible fully reflect on this core human responsibility and punishment to those who violate the Divine Covenants. The Earth is not a property of the US or Israel but a Divine hub of human Life, Survival and a Trust, those bombing and destroying it are mentally sick and defy the Divine Truth. It looks as if the US and Israeli leaders do not believe in life and death and accountability. The earth is a living entity and spins at 1670 km per hour and orbits the Sun at 107,000 km per hour. Imagine, if this spinning fails, what consequences could occur to the living beings on Earth.
Think again, about the average distance of earth from moon is 93 million miles -the distance of Moon from Earth is currently 384,821 km equivalent to 0.002572 Astronomical Units. Earth is a "trust" to mankind for its existence, sustenance of life, survival, progress and future-making. The Earth exists and floats without any pillars in a capsule by the Will of God, so, "Fear God Who created life and death." Is human intelligence still intact to understand this reality? Wherever there is trust, there is accountability. The Divine Revelations (the Quran: 40:21) offer a stern warning to conscientious leaders and nations:
Do they not travel through the earth and see
What was the End of those before them. They were even superior to them in strength
And in the traces they have left on the earth. But God did call them to account for their sins
And none had they to defend them against God.
And killing of innocent people is prohibited in the Ten Commandments (Torah):
'Thou shalt not kill' (Exod. 20:13; also Deut. 5:17). Jewish law views the shedding of innocent blood very seriously, and lists murder as one of three sins (along with idolatry and sexual immorality), that fall under the category of yehareg ve'al ya'avor – meaning "One should let himself be killed rather than violate it.

The Israeli-American denial of crimes against humanity, "genocide" in Gaza, forcible expulsion of millions clearly represent ferocious conception of right and wrong and how irrational the leadership tends to be in real world affairs. Political wickedness is endemic and Western leaders appear mentally and morally dubious as they offer lip service to peace and continue to supply weapons to Israel. Public consciousness and peace activists around the globe demand accountability of Israel and the US. The Trump Peace Plan has paused the war but displacement and killing of Palestinian continues unabated. What a shame, what a disgrace to the Arab-Muslim countries and so-called leaders having armies, resources and opportunities to defend Palestine, besieged masses of Gaza and their rights, dignity, and sustainable future. Imam Jamil Al-Amin - America's Imam
We all come from Allah, and it's to him we make our return. It's odd. Although I am angry and saddened by the death of Imam Jamil Al-Amin in a federal prison for an act (not a crime) he did not commit, I am accepting of it. Masha'allah - it is as Allah willed it. As my African slave ancestors believed, once they made the transition from this life, Imam Jamil's death has freed him from his unjust bondage. On November 23, 2025, he returned to Allah at the age of 82.
I pray that Allah rewards Imam Jamil for his patience, suffering, and for teaching the truth for so many decades, just as in Surat-al-'Asr (Chapter 103 in the Qur'an). He was a true inspiration during and after the Black Power Movement in America. I pray that Allah reward Imam Jamil's family for their patience and support throughout his life, especially during his unjust incarceration. May Allah bless Imam Jamil's family as they experience their loss.
I did not know him personally, but Imam Jamil had a profound effect on me. After he was incarcerated, Imam Jamil Al-Amin wrote an article stressing the importance of Surat-al-'Asr and till this day it is my favorite Surah in the Qur'an. The Imam helped me to realize that this Surah reveals the keys to living a fulfilling life on earth while learning how to survive its adversities. The Imam exemplified everything that was in one of the shortest chapters of the Qur'an!
For example, Surat-al-'Asr tells us to "join in the mutual teaching of truth and patience (through adversity)." Earlier in his prison sentence, it was reported that Imam Jamil had such a strong, positive influence on the other prisoners that he was removed from population and put into solitary confinement, which he endured for years! He had often been referred to as a charismatic leader by friends and foes alike, and he did such a great job that his enemies sought to punish him for it. Imam Jamil responded that as long as he could make his salat, he would be alright. I remember wondering how much suffering the warden thought he inflicted on the Imam, not realizing that the Imam's relief from this injustice was through making his daily prayers. Very powerful!
I remember watching Gil Noble's Like It Is, a program focused on global Black issues, and I saw a much younger Imam Jamil (known as H. Rap Brown at the time) questioning the phrase "truth, justice, and the American Way," which is associated with comic book hero Superman. He said that fighting for truth and justice made sense, but what is the "American Way?" He famously stated that violence "was as American as cherry pie." More than ever, many Americans are questioning the 'American Way' of doing a lot of things.
The kuffar and munafiq devils who conspired to frame Imam Jamil may relish the fact that he spent many years away from his family and endured unjust treatment behind bars, ultimately passing away in a prison hospital. For these devils, making examples out of our leaders (Imam Jamil, Sheikh Omar, Dr. Afia, Mumia, etc.) is supposed to make us tremble in fear of something like that happening to us. Their goal is to stop us from challenging their evil policies, and I do not see that happening at all! Their arrogance causes them to believe they are untouchable, but Allah has the final say (Holy Qur'an 29:4).
We admire our freedom fighters and fight for them when they cannot fight for themselves. I remember the efforts on the part of Muslims and other human rights activists to write letters demanding better treatment for the Imam during his incarceration. New Trend Editor Dr. Kaukab Siddique, who referred to Imam Jamil as America's Imam, always encouraged readers to write letters to political prisoners, which I did on a few occasions throughout the years, including to Imam Jamil Al-Amin.
Allah makes it clear throughout the Qur'an that he is with those who believe and patiently persevere (2:153). Allah warns us that, in some instances, with faith comes persecution. Imam Jamil demonstrated what living fisabillilah (for Allah's sake) was like. It is not just the conclusion of their life's stories we must focus on, but it is how leaders, such as Imam Jamil and El-Hajj Malik Shabazz, exhibited the courage to confront oppression and endure the adversities that came with it without ever cowering! They never backpedaled, backtracked, "clarified," or about-faced on any statements made.
Ultimately, we will all be tested (Holy Qur'an 29:2-3). The question is, will Allah's test prove we are true believers or liars?
"As for those who believe and do good, We will certainly absolve them of their sins, and reward them according to the best of what they used to do." (Holy Qur'an 29:7).
